The Levoit Core 300 air purifier is suitable for people with allergies or asthma, but also for babies and their rooms (the risk of ozone emissions from the device is zero and the noise level is low). How does the Levoit Core 300 work?
One of the advantages of the Levoit Core 300 is the quality and price of its air filters. The filters are True Hepa certified and remove up to 99.97 % of airborne pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens, mould spores, pet dander and dust.
For those who prefer a non-ionising air purification device, note that this brand does not use ultraviolet light (UV-C). This means that there is no risk of ozone emission and makes this device particularly suitable for babies and asthma sufferers.
Levoit states that this air purifier works best in rooms with a surface area of 20 m². (office, bedroom, living room). When used in spaces of this size, the Core 300 promises an ACH (Air Changes per Hour) of 5x and a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of 187 m3/h. These rates mean that the unit renews the air in a room 5 times every hour, making it very effective in purifying homes with high levels of air pollutants and allergens (dust, dust mites, mould spores, VOCs, etc).
A 3-stage filtration system
The Core 300 uses an internal fan to draw in household air through a series of 3 air filters capable of removing harmful airborne particles and neutralizing odours. The 3 filters used are :
- A nylon pre-filter: this works by blocking fine particles such as pet hair, hair, pollen, lint and fibres.
- A True HEPA filter: This filter removes viruses, bacteria, mould, pet dander, dust and dust mites from the air. A True HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter is a filter certified to remove 99.97 % of airborne pollutants as small as 0.3 microns.
- An activated carbon filter: This filter is made of charcoal activated by an oxygen treatment. This treatment opens up millions of pores on its surface, which are ideal for adsorbing gases and odours from indoor air.
Levoit recommends replacing filters after an average of 6 months of use. The cost of True HEPA filters varies, but is generally affordable depending on your choice. Among them, there are 4 different products:
- An original filter - the best for allergies, dust and minor odours.
- An anti-animal allergy filter - ideal for pollen, dander, house odour and pet odour.
- A toxin absorbing filter - ideal for smoke, vehicle exhaust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from household products.
- An anti-mould and anti-bacteria filter - ideal for mould spores and mildew.
A silent device
This air purifier can be used to purify the air in the room as its noise level is 25 dB at its lowest setting (quieter than a whisper). At its maximum speed, the noise emitted by the purifier reaches about 50 dB, which is quieter than a conversation, which is usually 60 dB.
Low power consumption
This appliance has a rated power of 45 watts at the highest setting and a standby power consumption of 0.8 watts. This means that if you run the device 12 hours a day, you will pay approximately €2 per month.
Ergonomics of the Levoit Core 300
The Levoit Core 300 air purifier is made entirely of solid plastic. At first glance, it is noticeable that the various components of the device fit together and are perfectly aligned. The design of the shell has a matt finish that is quite pleasing to the eye and is synonymous with quality. The Levoit Core 300 is designed to draw in air from all sides (360°) and uses a bottom-up airflow. The design has been particularly well thought out in terms of the air outlet, which appears to be inspired by a jet engine and surrounds a touch screen control interface.
Accessible controls
Supplied without a remote control or Wi-Fi connectivity, this product can only be controlled through its touch screen. We don't think this is a problem in itself, as the uncluttered screen interface has all the necessary controls, including a 3-speed fan button and various indicators.
The Core 300 is equipped with a standby mode ideal if you want to spend a peaceful night with a quiet fan speed. Equipped with a timer function: you can also set the number of hours after which the purifier will automatically switch off.
Finally, another interesting feature is the screen lock. This button is particularly useful for locking your current settings if you want to prevent your children from changing them.
A compact air purifier
The Levoit Core 300 has a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 24 cm and a height of 37 cm. These measurements, combined with its weight of 3.1 kg, make it a popular model for people looking for a compact air purifier.
The size of the product and its 360 degree airflow are also ideal for placing it anywhere you like. You can optimise its performance by placing it in the centre of your room. However, it will work just as well if it is placed next to a wall or next to your sofa.
The advantages and disadvantages
If affordability, compact design and above-average performance are at the top of your wish list, then the Levoit Core 300 is the right product for you. It is a model that we can recommend for use in a medium-sized room (about 20 m²). In addition to its compact design, we were impressed by its 5x ACH ratio, its 187 m3/h, its customisable True HEPA filters and its quiet operation.
